We don't own collection vehicles, bins, depots or recovery facilities — and we won't pretend we do. National Waste Solutions is a managed-service partner. We coordinate licensed operators across the UK on behalf of commercial clients, choosing the right recovery or treatment route for each waste stream and staying accountable for the outcome.

That matters here because sustainability claims need to be honest. Recycling and recovery rates depend on the operators who handle your waste, the streams you generate and the facilities available where you operate. We're straight about what's achievable, and we report on what actually happens.

What Energy-from-Waste and Anaerobic Digestion actually mean, where your general waste goes, and what we will and won't claim.

What is Energy-from-Waste (EfW) and why do you use it?

Energy-from-Waste is a treatment route where non-recyclable residual waste is incinerated under controlled conditions to recover energy — typically electricity, sometimes heat — instead of being sent to landfill. We route general waste to EfW facilities where recycling and recovery aren't viable, so energy is recovered from the waste your business can't reasonably recycle.

What is Anaerobic Digestion (AD) and what waste goes there?

Anaerobic Digestion is a biological process where organic waste — mainly food waste and AD feedstock — is broken down by bacteria in the absence of oxygen, producing biogas (renewable energy) and biofertiliser (used on land). We route food waste from hospitality, manufacturing and catering clients to AD plants wherever the operator network supports it.

Do you offer zero-to-landfill?

Honestly — no, and we don't claim it. Recycling rates, recovery routes and operator availability vary by waste stream, by location and by the facilities licensed nearby. What we do is route waste responsibly: recycling and recovery first, EfW and AD before landfill, and specialist treatment for hazardous and clinical streams. Landfill is the last option, not the default.

Where does my general waste actually go?

General (residual) waste from our coordinated collections is routed to Energy-from-Waste facilities through our licensed operator network wherever the option exists locally. Energy is recovered from the waste instead of it going to landfill. We can confirm the destination route for your specific site as part of a waste audit.

How do you make commercial waste collection more sustainable?

Three ways. First, by routing each waste stream to the most appropriate destination — recycling and recovery before landfill. Second, by working with licensed operators that run Energy-from-Waste, Anaerobic Digestion and specialist treatment sites, so different streams go to the right place. Do you own the recycling and treatment facilities?

No — and we're straight about that. National Waste Solutions doesn't own collection vehicles, bins, depots or recovery facilities. We're a managed-service partner: we coordinate licensed operators across the UK on behalf of commercial clients, choose the right recovery or treatment route for each waste stream, and stay accountable for the outcome.

Can you report on our recycling and recovery rates?

Yes, where the operator data supports it. As part of a managed service we consolidate the reporting your licensed operators provide — collection volumes, recovery routes used and (where measured) recycling rates — so you have a single, honest view of how your waste is being handled. We're upfront about what's measurable and what isn't.
